Things you need to know when building a house.

It is great that you have decided to build your own home and now that you have acquired the land in an ideal location, it’s time to start looking for the building contractor who is going to design and build your dream home for you. There are a lot of hard decisions ahead of you and so you need to take this project very seriously indeed. This is your future home we are talking about here and it will probably be the home that you will bring your children up in and you might even retire in.

When many people get involved in house building (called การสร้างบ้าน in Thai), they are not ready for the hurdles that they meet along the way and what should be an enjoyable experience turns into something quite different. There are a wide number of things that you need to know before building your own home and the following are just some of them.

  • Design for your future – Many people make the mistake of designing and building a property that is suitable for them now but may not be suitable for them in 10 to 15 years from now. You might decide now that you don’t want to have a family and yet to 3 years down the road a new baby is on the way and now your property isn’t fitted out for children. The same applies when you reach retirement age and maybe you might have difficulties moving around your property because you were using a wheelchair. The doors will have to be widened which is a major renovation and so you should consider your future now when deciding on how you want to build your property.
  • Invest in good fixtures – It is likely that you will want to cut corners here and there because you seem to be going over budget on a regular basis. The thing to remember here is to make sure that you properly invest in the fixtures that you put around your home. These are the parts of your home which will be in place for many decades and so it’s important that you invest in high quality. It is such a big job swapping these things out later, so make smart choices now and it will save you a lot of headaches much further down the road.

These are two things that you might want to consider and there are numerous more. Remember this is your home and this is your investment, so make sure that you take your time and you make the right decisions.
